Vermont Green ace Clark Smith Hurls No-No

July 16, 2000 – The Nashville Legends were unable to touch Clark Smith today. The Legends sent up 27 hitters and Smith retired all 27 batters.

The only blemish on the day was an error on a line drive by right fielder Millard Glenn. This occurred in the second inning, and Smith picked up his fielder by promptly inducing a inning ending double play.

Clark Smith was all but perfect on the day throwing 101 pitches, striking out 11 Legends, and notching a game score 98. The Vermont Greens hitters helped support Smith’s win by giving Smith the lead in the first inning on a George Robinson 3-run home run.

Smith is the second player to throw a no-hitter in the Classic Baseball Union, and this is the third no-hitter thrown in the Classic Baseball Union. Smith has been a staple in the CBU since coming over originally in the 1994 inaugural draft. Drafted by Greene, Smith has a 87-80 record 4.56 ERA and 1,251 strikeouts.
