The Denver Pines win 2000 CBU Championship

October 28, 2000 – The Denver Pines are celebrating back in Denver already after the Pines completed the first ever 4-game sweep in the CBU Championship. The Durham Dragons put up a fight in three of the four games, but failed to win a single game.
The Pines were headlined by a young Alex Moss who hurled a complete game shut-out in game 3. Moss used 127 pitches and walked three hitters, and spread 6 hits over 9 innings. Moss was not his usual self, as he only struck out one hitter, but he kept hitters from squarely hitting the ball all day.
The Pines were the second straight Wild Card team to take home the CBU Championship, and helped pad the Landis League total (5-2 against the Giamatti League). The Pines battled the Redbank Bandits in a 7-game series that they won in Redbank. Then took down the Buffalo Wings in 6 games.
The Pines were led all season by 1B Peter Adams who won the 2000 LL Babe Ruth Award with a season of .365 with 33 homers and 109 RBI. Also SP Alex Moss took home the Landis League Jackie Robinson Award with his rookie campaign. Moss torched the Landis League with a 18-7 record 3.62 ERA and 160 strikeouts in 239 innings pitched.
