November 1, 2005 – The Swashbucklers capped off their miracle season after closing down the Sioux Falls Underdogs in game seven 2 to zero.

It was a team effort to close out the final game as Lance Corbin went 7 strong innings spreading out 5 hits with 3 walks, while striking out 7. Then a trio of relievers closed down the 8th inning giving the ball to Tony Pérez who closed out his 7th save of the postseason perfectly.

The Swashbucklers can now shake off the stigma of being the doormat to the CBU. 2005 was their year as they won their first division title, got their second playoff appearance and won the 2005 prize.

The Savannah team now has a one up over their Georgia counterpart Augusta Murderer’s Row who have been Giamatti League Champions twice, but failed to win the trophy in both tries.

Corbin: 14-10, 2.87 ERA, 248 IP, 218 K

The key to the season was the pitching staff that lead the Giamatti League in ERA, runs allowed, hits allowed, opponents AVG, and BABIP. Also the staff was second in home runs allowed and batters struck out.

The pitching staff was lead by the four headed monster of Lance Corbin, Octávio Santos, Nathan Mason, Ken Wallace who all had ERA’s under 3.50 and made at least 29 starts.

The Swashbucklers upped the tally for the Giamatti League in the race for most CBU Championships. Savannah was the league’s fifth championship, but they still trail the Landis League with seven.
