SP – Anderson Bishop (1994-1999)
Player Card | StatsLab Profile | CBU Legend Anderson Bishop retires again from baseball
Starter Anderson Bishop Brooklyn/Wisconsin
Anderson ‘Dumbo’ Bishop was out of baseball for years when the Classic Baseball Union knocked on his door. The 40 year old took the opportunity to return to pitching and went on to make the CBU All-Star team in five straight seasons. Nobody will ever know how Bishop would have fared over a full career in the CBU, but his 5 year run after 40 years old was as dominating as any other pitcher’s performance.
Those first five years, Dumbo won 86 games averaged a 3.58 ERA and 149 strikeouts. 1994 was a special year for the veteran who tossed 265 innings, with 18 wins and a 2.82 ERA for the inaugural season. He only allowed 9 homers and struck out 259 CBU hitters. Bishop was also good to finish his games as he finished 30 games, with 10 shut outs in the five seasons.
Any pitcher would love to have a 5 year peak as high as Bishop provided, which makes it even more amazing as Bishop “peaked” after 40 years old. Bishop helped popularize the Classic Baseball Union, and still works in the league marketing efforts today.
Bishop – 5 Time All-Star, played 6 seasons. 1,416 career IP, 3.58 ERA, 93-64 W/L, 930K, 327 BB, 105 HRA. 30 complete games, 10 shut outs. 323.3 VORP
