Players ready themselves for Inaugural Draft

December 1993 – The Classic Baseball Union has prepared the league for its inaugural player dispersal draft. The draft order was drawn in the league office and CBU’s lone Canadian team Dijon Moutarde will have the honor of drafting first in January.

The draft will last 125 rounds and 2920 eligible players have made commitments to the CBU over the last 12 months. Charlotte, Augusta, Greene, and Redbank round out the top 5 picks in the draft. The Brooklyn Blue Sox will have the 20th pick and then the 1st pick in the 2nd round.

The franchises will use these players to fill their five team organizations from the top down. All players have been guaranteed contracts in exchange for their commitment to the CBU. Any player in contract with the MLB or who has MLB experienced is not eligible for the CBU draft.

Despite the lack of talent provided by the MLB, the CBU has a few talented individuals who are expected to make lasting marks on the league. The CBU’s scouting service listed these individuals as the top talented players:

Wade, Jowett, and Gordon are all products of various CBU sponsored collegiate baseball academies. Bouchet was playing baseball in Canada. Gary Evans was just granted his minor league free agency from the Minnesota Twins. Anderson Bishop the eldest of the group has been pitching in Japan for the last 15 years. Bishop had a major league arm, but grew up on a military base in Japan.
These players are just a peak into the potential that the CBU has harvested. Certain smaller market MLB teams have made complaints in the news to their commissioner, but the MLB office is mum on the situation. Labor strife continues in MLB and there’s looming feelings of a possible strike situation.
