Players ready themselves for Inaugural Draft
December 1993 – The Classic Baseball Union has prepared the league for its inaugural player dispersal draft. The draft order was drawn in the league office and CBU’s lone Canadian team Dijon Moutarde will have the honor of drafting first in January.
The draft will last 125 rounds and 2920 eligible players have made commitments to the CBU over the last 12 months. Charlotte, Augusta, Greene, and Redbank round out the top 5 picks in the draft. The Brooklyn Blue Sox will have the 20th pick and then the 1st pick in the 2nd round.
The franchises will use these players to fill their five team organizations from the top down. All players have been guaranteed contracts in exchange for their commitment to the CBU. Any player in contract with the MLB or who has MLB experienced is not eligible for the CBU draft.
Despite the lack of talent provided by the MLB, the CBU has a few talented individuals who are expected to make lasting marks on the league. The CBU’s scouting service listed these individuals as the top talented players:
- Ed Wade – Age 21 – Outfield from St. Petersburg, FL
- John ‘Hitman’ Jowett – Age 19 – Pitcher from Sebastian, FL
- River ‘Matchbox’ Gordon – Age 20 – Catcher from Columbus, OH
- Pierre Bouchet – Age 27 – Outfielder from Moncton, New Bruswick, Canada
- Gary Evans – Age 24 – Infielder from Philadelphia, PA
- Anderson ‘Dumbo’ Bishop – Age 39 -Pitcher form Lake Charles, LA
