MLBPA and MLB agree to new CBA
April 2, 1995 – The Classic Baseball Union is preparing for its second regular season, and in response the MLBPA and MLB finally agree to end their work stoppage. While many MLB fans have already invested their money into CBU tickets, the MLB will try to salvage and rebuild its brand.
While under the new proposed deal, the owners in MLB are making more money, the CBU has been a more attractive league for amateurs. More money is being spent and promised to the players, and last year the CBU donated over 100 million dollars to various charities and non-profit baseball related funds.
Major League Baseball has its history and clout, but the Classic Baseball Union is no longer a laughing stock idea. The CBU is gaining a lot of steam and exposure, and Dijon winning the CBU Championship Series caught the attention of a record television audience.
The strike could not have occurred at a better time for the CBU, but the real challenge remains to be seen with MLB opening its doors back up. Many MLB officials believe that the CBU cannot keep up with its current model. But its hard to argue with the first season’s success.
