Player Card | StatsLab Profile
Pedro Hernandez was drafted by the Redbank Bandits with the 5th pick in the 11th round of the inaugural draft. Hernandez was 23-year-old ready for the Union from the get go. One of the products of the newly developed CBU collegiate academy program, Hernandez was a powerful slugger with a creative bat.
In 1994, Hernandez crushed 39 homeruns and 153 runs batted in witha .279 batting average. The highlight from the 1994 season was made on October 2nd, when he went 4-4 against the Wisconsin Cheese. He hit the cycle that day and batted in 3, and also scored 3 runs on the day.
1995 was even better for the young man as he led the Giamatti League with 43 homeruns. He also hit .315 with again 153 runs batted in, in just 123 games. Hernandez would be featured in his one and only All-Star game that season.
In 1996, the Bandits controversially sent Hernandez to Vermont Greens for a fringe prospect catcher. Hernandez would fight injured over the next three and a half seasons with the Greens. He hit 31 homers in 1996, 21 in 1997, 20 in 1998 at just 27-years-old.
However, injuries sapped Hernandez’s bat speed, he saw just 9 at bats in 1999, before getting sent to the minor leagues for the rest of his baseball career. Hernandez would bounce around the minor leagues through 2005 before hanging up his clete’s officially. At just 28 years-old he was out of the Union, and had hit 155 home runs on 604 hits. He hit .264 over his career that is marred by the coulda/woulda/shoulda.
