David Martin Wins 2008 Triple Crown Race

David Martin

David Martin completes season with video game like numbers.

October 5, 2008 – David Martin played today with the Triple Crown on the line. Martin began the day tied with Lawrence Thomas, of the Wisconsin Cheese, in home runs in the Landis League with 45.

Martin would not go on to help himself by striking out 3 times and grounding out the other. But Thomas also did not hit a home run giving him the tie for the lead. With that Martin becomes the first ever player to hit for the triple crown in either league.

David Martin had a magnificent season, hitting .368 with 45 homers and 129 RBI. Martin also added 17 steals and compiled 222 hits that will no doubt give him the odds on favorite for the Babe Ruth Award this off-season.

It is a great achievement and I am blessed to have the ability and talent necessary to compete at the level that I do. But for now, the Darners have a bigger challenge on our plate. We’re back in the playoffs and with one goal in mind, the CBU Championship. The baseball card statistics are nice and something my family can be proud of, but nothing would be better than to show my future grand kids the back of the baseball card, and then point to a championship ring. ~ David Martin

David Martin’s career has been impressive thus far. The 25-year-old has been a dominate force since his call up in 2006. He already has 579 hits, 101 homers and a career .335 batting average in three seasons. The Former 1st round pick (#5 overall) from Chicago Illinois has taken kindly to the weather out West, and is already becoming a fan favorite.

The Tacoma Darners drew the Dijon Moutarde in the first round, and both teams are looking for their 3rd CBU Championship.
