Brooklyn Blue Sox

October 28, 1997 – A battle between two teams from new York is completed as the first ever meeting between the Buffalo Wings and Brooklyn Blue Sox ends as the boys in the East grab their first championship.

The Blue Sox will go down in history as the first CBU Champions from the Giamatti League as the Landis League dominated the first three years of CBU play.

Lefty Claudio Meza led the Blue Sox by carrying them on his back. Meza started 35 games, went 18-11 with a 3.56 ERA. Meza was even more lights out in the playoffs going 3-0 in 4 starts, 31.2 IP with 17 strikeouts.

The Blue Sox were not all pitching as left fielder Carl Williams crushed 33 homers with a .307 average, right fielder Nicanor Guita added 31 homers, and 3rd bagger Earl Galloway also launched 28 homers in the 1997 campaign.

The Blue Sox won the Veeck Division edging out the Vermont Greens by 9 games. The Blue Sox then ended the Green season in a game five 5-2 victory. The Durham Dragons were swept away for the Giamatti League championship, and then finally the Buffalo Wings were taken down four games to one.
