500s Alonso Santos looking to break contract records.

November 1, 2000 – Left fielder Alonso Smith made a statement earlier in the season that he would not be neogotiating a contract extension until after the 2000 season. Smith’s 5-year deal worth $42,000,000 signed in 1996 will expire in this month.
Smith is one of the most popular players in the Classic Baseball Union. Recently turned 30-years-old, Smith finished the 2000 season on a high note. Smith hit .349 with 25 home runs and 107 RBIs, plus 23 stolen bases.
Smith joined the CBU from the very beginning and was made Indianapolis’s first pick in 1994 at just 23-years-old. In seven seasons Smith has accured 1,616 hits, 201 homers, and 156 stolen bases while hitting .355 in his career.
The 1998 MVP has been voted to the All-Star team in 6 of the 7 season’s he has played. He leads all CBU hitters in career hits, at-bats, total bases, and singles.
If the 500s don’t pay him this off-season, there’s no doubt many other CBU teams would line up to pay for his services.
