National Baseball College Endowment Created
In 1990, in efforts to keep declining college baseball programs afloat, an anonymous philanthropic group started a national college endowment of ten million dollars. The endowment was designed to provide scholarships to baseball players and many major universities across the nation. The process for selecting players and schools was based on academic standards. The endowment annually funds hundreds of college athletes across the United States.
