New Owners Face Dollar D-Day

New ownership has arrived in Denver to take over the foundering Colorado Everest franchise in the Classic Baseball Union (CBU). The new brain trust will face an immediate financial crisis that threatens to throw the team into deep debt for a long time. The sometimes unrealistic arbitration process in place in the CBU has resulted in a team payroll of in excess of $112 million. Last week before the winter meetings Sioux Falls brought in ace pitcher Ramon Cruz. This week as the winter meetings close the Uber Giraffes unload some more depth to fill in some voids at starting pitcher. The Sioux Falls Uber Giraffes finally found a pitcher who can be a leader in former New Orleans starter Ramon Cruz. The 26-year-old right-hander from New York, NY will find a taste of farm life in South Dakota. In Sioux Falls this season there was only one question that never got answered. What happened to the rotation? Last year’s ace and post season goat Will Hill left in free agency to pitch in Redbank, then went along to have a season ending injury. Lonnie Cole and Albert Rosas both battled old age and injuries. The best of the regular season won out in the playoffs in 2010. The Portland Lions who won 115 times through their tour of 2010 Giamatti League opponents made their postseason trip short and sweet. Pitching was the name of the game for the Lions as they were led by a rotation who all had double digit wins: Chris Bruce 15 wins, Ron Hatch 16 wins, Phil Farrell 17 wins, Mark Owens 14 wins, and Shawn Roberts 10 wins.
