Orlando, FL (AP): The Orlando Orcas faced the Akron Dandies in the CBU World Series. The Dandies managed to win 2 games in the CBU World Series, but the Orcas won the Inaugural CBU World Series and made history! The Orcas won their 4 games in convincing fashion, by eclipsing the 10 run mark in 3 out of the 4 wins! In Game 6 of the CBU World Series, which was played at Sea World Waterball Park, the Orcas cruised to a 10-2 victory to become the World Champions. As the Orcas began the celebration after the game, the stadium started to blast Queen’s, “We are the Champions”, as the Orcas went and took a victory lap! Orcas 2B Mark Kachmar was seen leaving the field and a reporter ran up to him. The Reporter asked, “Mark…You were named the Player of the Game in Game 6 of the CBU World Series and your team has won the CBU World Series; what are your plans?” Kachmar responded, “I’m headed to Disney World!” This was a great accomplishment for a team that was predicted to be fighting to stay out of the LL Frazee basement and not considered by many to be a challenger this season! The Orcas are pressed near the Salary Cap, so it will be interesting to see if this team can keep their core players together and make another run to repeat as Champions. What’s in store for the Orcas in the off-season?

Carlos Moreno
RF Carlos Moreno

Orcas RF, Carlos Moreno had an incredible rookie season. During the season, Moreno hit .315, with 31 HR, 106 RBI’s and had 12 stolen bases. Moreno continued to play well throughout the Post-season as he hit .308, with 5 HR, and 10 RBI. Moreno is one of the best young players in the CBU and he appears to be on his way to a fantastic career. The Orcas have a shot to repeat as the Champions next season as long as Moreno continues to play at a high level. Moreno is a spectacular fielder with an extremely strong arm. Moreno led the team in Batting Average, HR, and RBI. It will be fun to watch his career unfold and it’s anyone’s guess how many Championships he’ll have when his career is over! Look for him to have an even better sophomore season next year!

Domeneco Corosi
P Domeneco Corosi

Orcas Starting Pitcher, Domeneco Corosi missed most of the season with a torn rotator cuff, but when he looked dominant when he was on the mound for the Orcas this season. Corosi started 9 games and had a 6-1 record. In 62.2 innings, Corosi recorded 48 K’s, 11 BB’s, and had an ERA of 2.01. Corosi returned for the Post-season and made a huge impact for the Orcas on their way to the Championship. Corosi started 5 games and had a 3-1 record. In 36.1 innings, Corosi recorded 21 K’s, 10 BB’s, and had an ERA of 1.24. It makes you wonder; how much better the Orcas would have been this season had Corosi stayed healthy. At 35, Corosi still appears to have a lot in the tank. Can Corosi stay healthy next season and put his team on a path to repeat as Champions?

Skip Small
P Skip Small

Orcas Starting Pitcher, Skip Small was the first 20+ game winner in the CBU this season. Small started 37 games and had a record of 21-11. In 224.2 innings, Small recorded 149 K’s, 59 BB’s, and had an ERA of 3.57. In the Post-season, Small continued to win games for the Orcas. Small started 4 games and had a 3-0 record. In 24 innings, Small recorded 18 K’s, 9 BB’s, and had an ERA of 2.25. Small turns 37 for the next season and fans are speculating whether he will be with the Orcas for the rest of his career or if he will be dealt to clear up some Cap Space for the club. On thing is for certain, Small played a key role in their first Championship and played well beyond expectations!

The air waves at 1080AM ESPN Orlando have been flooded with ecstatic callers who are rejoicing about the Orcas winning the Inaugural Championship. The Orcas put their doubters to rest this season and made history by becoming the first Champions in CBU League History! That’s a distinction that nobody can ever take away. The CBU might just be the thing that restores the integrity of professional baseball. There have been rumors circulating that there may be some defectors from the MLB coming to the ranks of the CBU, but for now that’s all speculation. It remains to be seen if the CBU will allow these potentially tainted players into their league and take a risk of eventually becoming another MLB. There have been mixed reactions. Many like the idea of these MLB players joining their ranks, but there have been some staunch critics who have stated that these players do not belong and do not hold the values of this new league! Time will tell what happens and it will probably be discussed in full at the Winter Meetings by the owners. Can the CBU be the downfall for the MLB? The league has already gained local popularity in all the cities of the league, but it’s starting to gain some national exposure. Many baseball purists are starting to defect to the CBU where the competition is considered to be legitimate by many. Some still believe that the CBU is nothing more than a glorified minor league and refer to it as 4A Baseball at its finest! The parade is coming to Orlando and fans attention will start to veer towards the Orlando Magic now that it’s basketball season, but the Orcas will be back next season to try and repeat as Champions! Can they find a way to pull it off? Stay tuned next season to find out!
