Carson City Silver Strikers

After 117 losses and weeks of speculation, it’s now official: the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx are moving to Carson City, Nevada.

The franchise will be now be known as the Carson City Silver Strikers, in homage to the Nevada state capital’s rich silver history.

“After the rough season we had, it will be nice to start fresh again in a new city with a new look,” General Manager Green & Gold Heart said. “The city of Carson City has welcomed us with open arms.”

The city and uniforms, however, won’t be the only changes to the new Carson City franchise, GGH said.

“We’re going to get to work this offseason,” she said. “There are a lot of changes to be made and we’re going to make them. You will see a much improved team in Carson City.”

It shouldn’t be hard for the team to improve on the embarrassing 45-117 record. In the 2009 season, the Diamond Jaxx were dead last in the CBU in almost all offensive and pitching categories.

The team’s one-year stay in West Tennessee was expected, even without the change of ownership. The woeful Diamond Jaxx didn’t do much to hold the interest of local fans, and many flocked to the nearby and much more successful Nashville Apostles.

After beginning the season with home crowds in the 40,000 range, the Diamond Jaxx’s attendance plummeted, averaging around 10,000 per game in the latter half of the season.

Carson City residents are excited about the arrival of the new team, but, as the team’s 2009 woes are well-known, they are not holding out hope for winning baseball yet.

One of the first Silver Strikers season ticket holders, Jason Gordon, is keeping things realistic.

“I’m excited because baseball is finally in Carson City!” he said. “This team has a long way to go though. I’m not expecting much this year but it’s nice that they are here.”

The Carson City Silver Strikers will play home games at the newly built Comstock Field, in downtown Carson City.
