Orlando, FL (AP): The Orlando Orcas have picked up right where they left off last season. After the month of April, the Orcas have opened the season with a 16-8 record. The Orcas find themselves atop the LL Frazee after the opening month of the season. The Houston Woodland (10-13) and the New Orleans Voodoo (10-13) are tied for 2nd. They both sit 5.5 games behind. The Carson City Silver Strikers (7-16) are bringing up the rear and are 8.5 games behind. Can anyone catch the Orcas or will they …

An emphasis on consistency has been mounted in the WBC club house as the club has fallen below 500 on the season and sits an uncomfortable five and a half back of the Orcas tied for second. To make the situation worse, team Ace, Werner Dye has been taken out of service for four months as his name joins the list of other prime stars from around the league which have been deemed a useless factor in their team’s success for the rest of the season. The only true sign …

BURLINGTON, VT — Earl Grant seems to be laboring under the weight of his five-year, $29 million contract.
He’s winless in two starts with an ERA over 11.
Phishheads pitching coach Bill “Spaceman” Lee isn’t worried, though.
“Earl’s a pro, he’ll settle in,” said Lee. “He’s been pitching OK except he hasn’t kept the ball in the park.”
In the first game, Grant hit a batter and gave up a single on a grounder that dribbled through second with two out in the fourth, the first two runners he had allowed. The next batter …

When your team is not winning, sleep is but a distant memory. With a 2-8 record, Norm Viger cannot remember the last time his head felt the touch of a pillow.
Tomorrow the Oshawa Generals start a 6 game road trip. Even without sleep Viger could be living his nightmare just the same. How does a team who made no moves after a pretty good season sink to such a low?
Granted it is early, but the season will pass quickly and every day where moves are delayed, becomes another day lost.
Suddenly …

Fans lined up to the gates. Players dug into the batter’s boxes. Pitchers toed the rubber. The Classic Baseball Union kicked off its second season this week.
It was an opening week where newly acquired Burlington ace Earl Grant, signed to a lucrative 5-year $29 million dollar contract in the offseason, lasted just 3.1 innings in Portland on 4 hits and 5 earned runs. A week which saw the Colorado Everest put up 15 runs in the first 3 innings on opening day against Jose Munoz and Princeton, a masterful complete …

Simulation Highlights
After dropping a very tough opener at home, the WBC turned around and opened up a solid three series wins against Oshawa, Carson City and Peoria outscoring their opponents by a narrow Margin of 56 to 47, enabling a 6-3 record.
Game one saw a WBC kick-start as Stewart smashed a solo shot on the first strike thrown to him, however the club lost control of the score boards in the third and came close to a recovery in fifth, but ultimately didn’t have the momentum to go further.
On the …
Featured, GL News, Portland Lions »
(Portland, OR) – In a tight battle that lasted until the end of spring training, the Portland Lions have broken camp for Portland and have decided to go with Julian Gonzalez at 1B again for 2010. Gonzalez had been in a tight battle with Alfredo Garcia for the starting role at 1B, but after Gonzalez’ .343 season last year, a year in which he finished thousandths of a percentage point away from the batting title, and a spring in which Gonzalez batted .368 with a .456 OBP, Portland elected to …

Now that Spring Training is in the books, the WBC is up and roaring to get the season underway. With this in mind, the 25 man roster is now fully set and only a few names here and there are in question for call-ups or send downs during the first half of the season. The overall outlook on the spring was a positive one, as the club broke even at 12 wins and losses and a few names on the leader’s boards. In addition, the overall pitching went as expected, …
