Are the Orcas Pulling Away?

Orlando, FL (AP): It’s the end of July and we’re at the CBU Trading Deadline. The Orcas front office has been rather silent and it doesn’t appear that the Orcas have any trades in the works!
The Orcas currently sit atop the LL Frazee division with a 59-42 record. The New Orleans Voodoo (54-48) sit 5.5 games behind and are in 2nd place. The High Point Rail Riders (40-62) sit in 3rd place and are 19.5 games out. The West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx (29-73) are bringing up the rear and are 30.5 games out. The Orcas have an 18-6 record in July. The Orcas have been pulling away from the rest of the division and are sitting good right now. Can the Orcas continue to press on towards the LL Frazee division title this season? There are still a number of players who are not under contract next season, which the Orcas need to sign.

P Francisco Pérez
The Orcas have signed Starting Pitcher, Francisco Pérez, to a 3 year extension worth around 11.5 million. Perez has started 22 games this season and has a 10-4 record. In 128 innings, he has 54 K’s, 40 BB’s, and an ERA of 3.80. Perez is 2nd on the team in wins and leads the team in ERA. Signing Pérez was a priority for the Orcas. They believe that Pérez is a key player in their rotation and that he can help get this team to the LL Playoffs. Pérez had these comments about the extension, “I am all about winning and this team can go far. I am a player who brings his ‘A’ game every time out there and I’m just glad the Orcas organization recognized that. I have been rewarded for my contributions, so yes I am happy!”

P Skip Small
Orcas Starting Pitcher, Skip Small has been playing well lately. In the past 4 games, Small has a 4-0 record and an ERA of 1.24. Small started 23 games this season and has a 12-8 record. In 139.1 innings, he has 89 K’s, 43 BB’s, and an ERA of 3.81. Small leads the Orcas in Wins (12), K’s (89), and is 2nd in ERA (3.81). Small is 36 years old and is under contract until 2011. The Orcas need to keep playing well in the absence of ace Starting Pitcher, Domeneco Corosi who went down with a torn rotator cuff back in May!

RF Carlos Moreno
Orcas Right Fielder, Carlos Moreno won the CBU LL Player of the Week Award on July 27th. Moreno batted .462 with 12 hits in 26 at-bats, 3 home runs and 8 RBIs. This season, Moreno has 92 hits in 284 at bats (.324), with 17 HR’s, and 52 RBI’s. Moreno is one of the key factors for the Orcas success this season. He leads the team in batting average (.324) and is 3rd in RBI’s (52). Can Moreno continue to tear it up for the Orcas and put them in a better position to capture the LL Frazee division title this season?

The air waves at 1080AM ESPN Orlando continue to be callers who want to talk about Orcas baseball. The Orcas have been separating themselves from the LL Frazee pack and they are making their case to become the 1st LL Frazee division champions. Fans are very excited about the way the Bullpen has been pitching lately. Many callers want to talk about LF Peter Hill who has played extremely well the past 6 games. Hill has batted .478 with 3 HR’s. Others have called to talk about CL Dany Robert who has been on fire. Robert has 14 saves and an ERA of .46 in the past 18 games. Many Orcas fans feel that this team has a really great chance to win the Inaugural Championship. Others have concern about the Sioux Falls Uber Giraffes and if the Orcas could beat them out in the LL to get to the Championship. The Orcas have been exciting to watch this season and as the season moves on; nobody knows what to expect! One thing is for certain; Orcas fans love their team!

I’m starting to look forward to the fan radio wrapup in these.
Damn those Uber Giraffes…. Although the Orcas have a winning record against them.
