Oshawa Off to a Good Start

After an initial 3 game road trip to Orlando (1-2 record), the Oshawa Generals came home for a 7 game homestand.

Although losing 2 of 3 to the Orcas, the Generals racked up 18 runs to Orlandos 8. The bulk of those came in Game 2 that the Oshawa won 13-1. Eric Carter picked up the win in that game, going 7 innings giving up 1 earned run while striking out 7.

The initial homestand has proved to be success with the team winning 4 of 6 with one game still to be played.

In the opener, 44,806 fans watched Curran pick up the win in relief. Jeffrey Robinson had given up a single run in 6.1 innings but left before the General bats came to life. Dax Williams capped a 4 run 7th with a 2 run dinger, his first of the season.

Right now Oshawa sit a half game behind Sioux Falls for first place. The Uber Giraffes will be visiting Oshawa later this month in what could turn out to be an early test for the Generals.

As far as league stats go, Gerald Hill is currently leading the CBU with a batting average of .471.  While not a big home run threat, he is getting his share of extra base hits with 3 doubles and a triple.  From his lead off spot, he has 4 RBI already.

Meanwhile Oshawa’s first pick overall, Jake Straub,  has met and even exceeded expectations early on.  His 4 home runs are having an impact on how he is being pitched.  He is currently leading the league in BB with 10.  Jake has a healthy .321 batting average, 9 RBI and when he does not hit the ball out of the park, he is a definate base stealing threat.  He has 4 so far.

While the offensive output by Oshawa is a pleasant surprise, this could have the team labelled as a contender if it continues.
