Orlando, FL (AP): The CBU inaugeral season’s first month of the Regular season has come to an end and the Orlando Orcas find themselves atop the LL Frazee division with a 14-8 record, which is 3.5 games ahead of the High Point Rail Riders (11-12).

While Rapid City’s coaches are adamant that a platoon at 1B is the correct strategy, fans and upper management aren’t quite as confident. Up to this point in the season, the Outlaws have been starting left-handed Don Vogel against right-handed hurlers and right-handed Patrick Anthony against southpaws. This configuration been reaping rewards for the Giamatti League’s 2nd most potent offense, but management is beginning to wonder how long Vogel will accept this platoon role.

The votes couldn’t have been much closer for the inaugural rookie of the month award in the Giamatti League.
The winner, 3b Blake Rankin of the Colorado Everest, led all GL rookies in hits, BA, doubles, extra-base hits and total bases. That’s impressive, but it was hardly a walk-over for the award.

After an initial 3 game road trip to Orlando (1-2 record), the Oshawa Generals came home for a 7 game homestand.
Although losing 2 of 3 to the Orcas, the Generals racked up 18 runs to Orlandos 8. The bulk of those came in Game 2 that the Oshawa won 13-1. Eric Carter picked up the win in that game, going 7 innings giving up 1 earned run while striking out 7.

Start of Season Notes
Princeton eyes some changes as the Black Squirrels hope to protect some of its younger players while at the same time build on their 4-5 start to the season.
Unofficial word is that 21-year old second baseman Mike Anderson will be sent to AAA Woodbridge to play every day. Anderson will be the everyday second baseman and leadoff hitter for the Ratdogs. 25-year old switch hitter Antonio Rodriguez will fill Anderson’s spot on the 25-man roster.

The Burlington Phishheads, off to a 3-6 start and hitting just .227 as a team, have brought in hitting coach Hector “Little Cheese” Quesadilla to work with their batters. In particular, he’s been assigned to fix the swing of OF Caden Robinson, the cleanup hitter who is batting .086 thus far.
Quesadilla, with a lifetime .296 average and stints with the Reds, Cubs, Angels, Phillies and finally the Los Angeles Dodgers, is best known for both pitching and pinch hitting in the longest game ever played, several seasons ago against Atlanta.

Orlando, FL (AP): The 2009 inaugural season is underway and the Orcas are looking to make a splash. The Orcas hosted the Oshawa Generals to open the season!
There were 44,648 in attendance. Nobody found a way to score until the top of the 6th inning. SP Domeneco Corosi was pitching for the Orcas. Generals SP Jeffrey ‘Sheep’ Robinson ripped off a single.
