New Orleans Finally Hits the Major Leagues

The new Voodoo Logo.
For years New Orleans baseball fans have had to put on their road uniforms to catch a Major League baseball game. That may be about to change. City officials have been talking with multimillionaire Warren Fischer about the possibility of bringing a team right here to New Orleans.
Formed in reaction to the endless scandals and drug test failures in Major League Baseball, the Classic Baseball Union (CBU) is currently trying to create a legitimate alternative. While some argue that “if everyone is doing it, it can’t be cheating,” others long for the days before every baseball hero was brought down by his own misbehavior.
“This is the age of the media. You have to wonder how stars of the past would have held up under the kind of scrutiny players get these days,” said Mr. Fischer during a recent interview. “People seem to be responding to this idea of a new league, though, so maybe its time has come. I do think that New Orleans is a huge untapped baseball market, so we are happy to be in the position to bring baseball to the city.”
One person who seems to disagree about the “untapped market” is New Orleans Zephyrs manager Edwin Rodriguez. “We have been ‘bringing baseball’ to New Orleans for 16 years now. I don’t know if we need an upstart league to come into town try to shake things up. Honestly, I think a AAA for the real MLB team is going to outdraw these guys.” Time will tell.
When asked about a stadium, potential owner Warren Fischer said that they had been looking at some existing structures around the city, but they were still in the early stages of making a decision. “Obviously time is an issue here. We may have to see what we can get and then base any new stadium project on what kind of fan support we get.”
The Voodoo also unveiled their logo today during a press conference. It depicts a skull wearing a top hat resting on a pair of bones forming the shape of a ‘V’. The response from the audience was mixed with some commenting on the “unbaseball like” color selection, and others criticizing the obvious stereotyping involved. “New Orleans has so much more to offer the world than just ghost stories and witch doctors. This is a beautiful city with a rich history, but this is what we always get labeled as,” said one participant.
Team officials also announced plans for a AAA club in nearby Pineville, LA. Rumors are that Mr. Fischer once lived in Pineville and attended the local High School. There was no further information available on plans for that club or any other teams in the minor league system.
With the planned starting date for the league approaching, time is running out to get this franchise together. However, team officials were confident that they would be ready in time.
The question remains, is America ready for a new Major League baseball league? We’ll find out in April, and this time New Orleans will be there.
